Devon Eugene at Victoria Hospital. He is now recovering at home.

A 19-year-old is now recuperating at home after he was stabbed on Friday, Sept. 5 when he allegedly attempted to defend a relative.

Devon Eugene told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) on Sunday that he sustained two stab wounds to his abdomen and waist.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. near the La Croix bus stop.

Eugene said his cousin, a high school student, was hit with a plastic water bottle by another student.

“So I remove my cousin out of the way and push the one who hit him and his brother say ‘what happen?’ twice and we started to fight. I didn’t know I got stabbed. It was my friend who told me,” the supermarket employee told SNO.

He said the male who stabbed him is not a high school student.

On that day several fights broke out among students and also involved injuries.

  4. @TJ, I totally agree. Growing up, I attended SJC at Cedars and I lived all the way on the Morne/Goodlands. My mom had this rule that school dismissed at 3pm, I had to be at home no later than 4pm. But I guess my mom wasn't one of those 'fun' parents who allow their kids to wear skirts that leave nothing to be desired, or those skinny school pants that leave the boys' testicles choking beyond an inch of their young lives. Or one of those 'cool' parents who thinks curfews and restrictions on certain types of company their kids keep are outdated. Thank God for my NOT fun or cool mom. I didn't always understand why she did what she did, but as an adult now, sometimes walking in town, seeing how these kids carry on, I feel blessed to have had a mother who cared.

  5. Well said TJ
....question is where to start and who is willing to invest in order to come from solution
. It is too sad to know better and see young people miss out on a health sociable society and positive school memory! We have all gone home late at least once because we wanted to hang out by the library, or square or some spot around Castries. And these kids suppose to be the intelligent, forward thinking "technology babies."

  7. From top to bottom in this country, there is a lack of pride and discipline. Parents - send your children to school and ensure they return immediately. They are not meant to be roaming the streets like some feral gangs.

The judicial system needs tightening up, the police need to get rid of the bad apples. Everything is slack.

I think it's time to start making 'parents' responsible for acts committed by the under 16s, maybe that will sharpen their minds a little.

    • I totally agree that we as st Lucian women {especial school girls} lack pride and discipline. The parents are to blame and we can only clean these messes if the parents clean and shape themselves first. These girls and young men leave nothing to be desired about their bodies and some of them are nasty too. we are leaving in the last days and parents should really stop being so lenient with their girls. The issue about the boys wearing skinny pants is an issue whereby the schools should be dealing with more strictly.

    • Doing and saying what you want to your friends can contribute to such incidents; there is only so much "kicksing" off one will take.

My mother and I are best of friends and I respect my friends and every other person the same way she taught me to respect her and all my other elders. You can be a cool but strict parent at the same time, as long as you get the correct method of drilling it in the kids' heads that there is a time and place for everything and teach the real true value of respect for others.

  9. Unfortunately, such incidents will continue to take place until serious steps are taken to stop the congregation of the hundreds of students and unemployed young people who descend on Castries to make trouble or get into trouble after school on Friday afternoons.
