Trinidad: Teacher, students held with ‘marijuana cookies’

(TRINIDAD GUARDIAN) — Of­fi­cers of the North East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force (NEDTF) ar­rest­ed three peo­ple on Sat­ur­day night af­ter they were found sell­ing mar­i­jua­na-in­fused brown­ies and cook­ies in Ari­ma.

The three—one of whom is be­lieved to be a teacher at the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies, St Au­gus­tine Cam­pus—along with two stu­dents were held around 7.30 pm at Far­fan Street.

Act­ing on in­for­ma­tion, the of­fi­cers went to a named lo­ca­tion and found the trio al­leged­ly of­fer­ing the items for sale to in­ter­est­ed per­sons.

Fol­low­ing their ar­rest of­fi­cers led by ASP Bran­don John in­clud­ing Sgt Mas­call; Cpl Gen­tle, WPC Caruth and PC Stra­chan car­ried out search­es at the homes of the three and seized a quan­ti­ty of items per­tain­ing to the cre­ation, pack­ag­ing and dis­tri­b­u­tion of the prod­ucts.

The trio re­mained in cus­tody on Sat­ur­day night and were be­ing ques­tioned up to yes­ter­day.

They are ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore an Ari­ma mag­is­trate this morn­ing.

WPC Caruth is lead­ing the in­ves­ti­ga­tion.
