PRESS RELEASE – The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has once again demonstrated its nation’s support for the Government and people of Saint Lucia, with a generous financial donation to the Office of the Mayor.
Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Saint Lucia, His Excellency Mr. Ray Mou, presented one hundred dragon toy lanterns and a cheque of EC$5000.00 to his Worship Mayor Peterson Francis.
The monies will assist with lighting up the City of Castries, as the Office of the Mayor prepares to observe the annual Festival of Lights.
Speaking at Monday’s presentation ceremony, His Worship Mayor Peterson Francis welcomed the financial support from the Republic of China (Taiwan), noting that while lighting up the City is a very costly venture, every contribution counts.
“This generous donation will go a long way in illuminating the city of Castries for Christmas. The festival of lights kick starts the season of Christmas. The Taiwanese Government is near synonymous with big-heartedness in Saint Lucia and it is with great pleasure I extend my sincerest gratitude towards the Government of Taiwan for its continued commitment and to the Office of the Mayor. I look forward to more collaborations in the near future in as we seek to develop the City of Castries.”
H.E. Ambassador Ray Mou expressed his Government’s enthusiasm to be able to contribute towards Saint Lucia’s tradition.
“The aim is to create and build partnership through cultural exchanges and we are very happy that we were able to assist in lighting up your City. I intend to partner with His Worship Mayor Peterson Francis and do more to enhance the City.”
The Office of the Mayor, along with the Castries Constituency Council has always been charged with the responsibility of installing lights in Castries in observance of the annual Festival of Lights.
