Super J IGA showers Carnival Queen with gifts worth $10,000

St. Lucia’s Carnival Queen Janelle Desir has been celebrated by her sponsor Super J IGA supermarkets and showered with gifts which will help meet her personal, educational and community goals.

Janelle Desir visited Super J IGA offices at Choc, to personally thank the management team for their belief in her, their gracious sponsorship and committed support for a cause that she wants to personally identify with. It is an educational and personal p throject for single young mothers.

After her meet and greet with the Super J IGA management team, the 2012 Carnival Queen was showered with gifts by her sponsor.

The company’s Deputy Managing Director Martin Dorville expressed appreciation of the performance and achievement of their sponsored Carnival Queen contestant and expressed the hope that her reign would be an exemplary one.

Mr. Dorville unveiled and presented a suite of gifts totaling ten thousand dollars (EC $10,000,) which he explained as “purposely chosen to help Janelle Desir fulfill her personal, professional and a community development goals.”.
This included a cheque of $1000 for the purchase of school supplies to facilitate her studies at Monroe College; as Carnival Queen Janelle was given a scholarship from Monroe College.
Four thousand eight hundred dollars worth of groceries will be provided to her for one year in the form of monthly grocery vouchers for the next twelve months.

The Super J IGA gift package also included a pledge of EC $4,200 to help Janelle realise a dream project of working with young single mothers. Janelle believes that life does not end with motherhood and that young single mothers can go on to realise their life’s ambitions and goals. That project is being developed and the funds provided by Super J IGA will go towards giving her a start up with this project.

In response the Carnival Queen expressed gratitude for the privilege of representing Super J IGA and looked forward to working with her sponsor throughout her reign and beyond. She said representing Super J IGA was a most sought after prize by all contestants and felt privileged to be given the offer of carrying the MISS SUPER J and 2012 Carnival Queen Sashes.
