Sunshine girls demolish St. Lucia 88-24 in Glasgow

Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls got their campaign off to a flying start at the 20th Commonwealth Games with an easy 88-24 victory over Caribbean rivals St. Lucia in Glasgow.

Goalshooter Jhaniele Fowler-Reid led the Sunshine Girls with a game-high 32 goals from 35 attempts.

Romelda Aiken supported with 23 from 28; Thristina Harwood scored 17 from 18 and Shanice Beckford 16 from 18.

For St Lucia, Shem Maxwell had a team-high 11 goals from 16 attempts and Indira Laurencin nine from 13.

Jamaica, bronze medallists at the Commonwealth Games in 2002, finished fourth at the last tournament that was held in Delhi, India, in 2010.

They also recorded a fourth-place finish at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, which was held in Melbourne, Australia.

The Sunshine Girls are scheduled to face Northern Ireland in their second game of the tournament tomorrow, starting at 1 p.m. (Jamaica time).

  1. Lol at honest! Although Jamaica have more people to chose from but we should always try and show certain islands what we are made of but I guess it is easier said than done.

  3. The largest. group this year huh...what a waste of money. If you don't have competitive netball at the club and community level, how in the hell are you going to compete at the international level. But am sure we going to hear how "competitive" our girls were upon return
