PRESS RELEASE – Saturday fixture between top tier teams Market Road and Fond St. Jacques proved an interesting due as both teams had a point to prove wanting to emerge from the shadows of the traditional winners and truly contend for the title.

It was MARKET ROAD who found the back of the nets in the 43rd minute through (young striker) Nial Alfred and held their lines at the break. Second half saw FOND ST JACQUES going on the offensive to get a 67th minute equalizer through a strike by Danny Mitchel.

The game was delicately balanced as both teams battled for supremacy. However, it was FOND ST. JACQUES who left it late to get the winner in the 57th minute (Alvin Mitchel) to send MARKET ROAD crashing to a 2-1 defeat at hands of the lads from the food basket of Soufriere. FINAL SCORE MARKET ROAD 1- FOND ST. JACQUES 2.

The second encounter saw second teams; FAITH UNITED (coming fresh from an opened day victory) and FOND GEN LIBRE going head to head. A brace by talented Lurick Simon in the 23rd and 36th minute soon had FAITH UNITED in the driver’s seat. Birch Poselle pulled one back for FOND GEN LIBRE in the 42nd minute leaving the game on the edge at half time.

The spirited FOND GEN LIBRE team fought valiantly but the it was Demitri Modeste’s 67th minute goal who put FAITH UNITED further ahead 3-1 and in control of the game. FOND GEN LIBRE sprung another surprise as Jay Mesmain pulled one back in the 76th minute, confident of at least a draw.

But FAITH had the final say as Demitri Modeste completed a brace in the 87th minute to send FAITH to the top of the group. FINAL SCORE 4-2 to FAITH UNITED.
