PRESS RELEASE – Thirty two (38) primary school Physical Education Teachers from across the island Vige, Piaye, Balata, Garce, Bexon and the Castries area to name a few, concluded a five day Volleyball Seminar for Physical Education Teachers hosted at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium Players Pavilion and Indoor Practice Facility April 11 to 15, 2016.
Delivered by Volleyball Hall of Famer Coach Suzan Gozansky of the USA, under the auspices of the St. Lucia Volleyball Association, the International Volleyball Federation and the North Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) in conjunction with the Ministries of Education and Youth and Sports, the course taught and demonstrated theory and practical aspects of using Volleyball as part of the Physical Education curriculum.
The course is a central plank of the Association’s Volleyball Youth Development Program which seeks to spread the game across the island through schools, primary and secondary. The Association also provided each primary school which was represented to their PE Teacher with five (5) volleyballs so they can bring the sport to life in their schools immediately. Coach Gozansky rated the participants as A + for their enthusiasm and new ability to share their knowledge and skills.
Meanwhile, plans are well on the way for another high level course which the Association hopes to focus on the Coaches in Secondary Schools. In June this year an FIVB Level I Coaches Course will be held to build the game in Secondary Schools.
Participants in addition to receiving certificates and the balls for their schools, also received St.Lucia Volleyball Association pins from the President of SLVA and numerous tokens from Coach Sue Gozansky.
