Students commended for participation in regional poster competition

St. Lucian students who participated in a regional environmental poster competition are receiving high praises from the Ministry of Tourism, Heritage and Creative Industries.

The 2013 Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Children’s Environmental Poster Competition saw a number of entries from various schools on the island. Though St Lucia did not attain a place in the contest, those who participated are being lauded for their creativity.

In a press release, Zayne Fontinelle of the Carmen Renee Memorial School was praised for her winning entry in the junior division of the contest while Sophie Klein of Vieux Fort Comprehensive Campus A received commendation for her winning entry in the senior division. Both posters were said to have depicted a high level of creativity which is applauded by the ministry.

Others who submitted entries in the junior category were Leron Martyr of the SDA Combined School; Della Stephanie Louison and Erik Emanus of the Odsan Combined School; Ivine Nurse and Alexandra Napoleon of the Morne Du Don Primary and Dawson Charles of the Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School.

Girly Francisca Poleon of the Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School and Joshua Toulon of the Entrepot Secondary School were also acknowledged for their entries in the senior category of the competition.

The 2013 FCCA Children’s Environmental Poster Competition is held annually and is open to junior and senior students throughout the region, providing them with an opportunity to promote environmental awareness through the use of their creative skills, the press release said.

Each participating student will be rewarded with a US$200 cheque.
