Student arrested after knife incident at George Charles Secondary

By SNO Staff

A male student of the George Charles Secondary School was arrested by police this morning, after he allegedly attacked another student with a knife, causing him to sustain a minor cut to his finger.

Reports are that police officials responded to a call from the school about the incident, at about 9:00a.m today. The stab victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. Both the victim and alleged attacker are  fourth form students.

Fifteen-year-old, Felicity Florton who is also a student of the George Charles Secondary, was stabbed multiple times in Pavee, Castries by 18-year-old Stephon Joseph of Pavee, Castries on Thursday, June 12.

Joseph was a former student of the same school. The two had had struck up a friendship at the time Joseph was attending the George Charles Secondary School.

In June this year, the police said during 2013 and mid 2014, they confiscated a number of weapons from students at various primary and secondary schools within the education districts 1 to 3.

The weapons included: 35 knives, 26 scissors, a 24-inch cutlass, eight metal eating forks and a piece of wood with a nail embedded in it and three four-inch penknives.

Other items found included a bottle of alcohol, several ounces of marijuana, a golf club, a live .380 bullet and a rope measuring 57 inches, which was intended to be used for committing suicide.

  1. It's hard to come by experienced people in this particular subject, however, you seem
like you know what you're talking about! Thanks

  2. It's not always the parents fault. Some children have a good way of acting like a baby at home and a criminal out on the street, but sometimes we parents are too busy struggling to see what our children are becoming. Proverbs 22:6 - train up a child in the way they should go and when he is old he won't depart from it.

  3. Back in the days we could not pass an elder an not greet them. Licks in your ass. But today the police has confiscated a number of deadly weapons from STUDENTS. People it is a community effort, we need to start focusing more on all our kids(neighbors kids/friends) strengths than their weakness. Parents talk to your kids, listen and try to understand them, so when a neighbor/friend comes to you with information about your kids you know how to deal with the situation. Let us be more vigilant as a community so we can better protect our selves and family.

  7. What we speaking about

@ Bajan : face reality it is your business to know about your child's where abouts if u put work before your under age child and say you're working hard then this says it all. My mom works in the wee hours of the morning but made sure I was left with a responsible person plus she called throughout the night because she cares this much. If she didn't check on me well being when she went to work it would give me the ability to sneak out with out she knowing n when I'm in danger she is to blame because I am under age. She suppose to lead me to do the right things with the right actions. I hated that I was under intensive care but I'm proud today because I'm smart intelligent and a respected young lady at the age of 20 years. All because of the actions of my parents. So yes it is their business what their child's whereabouts are. The type of person they engage themselves with and the amount of respect instilled withing the household.

  11. What is happening in our schools today is what we as a nation have created. We are copy cats, we see these trends on TV especially MTV and BET and we started dressing like $2.00 whorls going to school.
When I was going to school back in the late 70's every young girl skirt was below their knees, we were looking like school children back then, we didn't dress like we were going to the nite clubs.
Our teachers were our teachers and
U had to do what was asked of u from them. No disrespect. Today Mother And Daughters Are Dressing AL Ike And Sons And Their Dads Are Walking With Tight Pants Hanging Off The asses. What Do We Expect? St.Lucia. We Have Lost Every RESPECT FOR Self And others. We Behave Like We Have Half A brain... NO Common Sense We Have No Pride Some Of US Carry Ourselves Like We Are On The Market FOR Sale. What do we expect. Charity begins at home. We as parents need to start acting as parents. We need to value our self not for the material things we have but for who God has made us to be.
God fearing people. Let's be ourselves. Take pride of being St. Lucian. Bring back the love, my goodness.

  20. All of this stems from the home and how some parents raise their children. Even from the way those children come to school gives you an indication of who controls who. As a parent, you are the one paying for uniforms for your kids, yet you assist them in breaking school rules by giving them short skirts or dresses or tight pants for school. This may seem like a minor issue but already you are aiding and abetting them in breaking rules. We not longer bring up our children, we drag them up, like they are the parents and we are the kids. We want to keep our children up with the current trend instead of instilling values which will shape law abiding citizens. I blame the parents because they place all the onus on the teachers, it is our jobs to raise our children and it is the job of the teachers to educate them and augment what we do at home.

    • I could not have said it better .... I look at some of the girls at A level and their skirts are so short. Their pants are so tight. No child of mine leaving home like that. Awa for some of these parents.

      (0)(0)
    • if the uniforms are incorrect the teachers need to send the kids home to get in uniform

teachers need to be parents more than parents are because they see the kids more than the parents and if they don't want to then they need to get a different occupation

  24. parents wake up!!! if that's how it work best for you, soon from now we will have no teachers in school to educate our kids. the teachers are not responsible for the up bringing of our children. when these children start to commit crime, the teachers will not be the ones playing role models by the court house. just look at the ages of the children involved in crime. whilst we whine down at fetes, our children slowly whine down the path of crime. parents please WAKE UP!! WAKE UP!! WAKE UP!!
    otherwise nous finnee...

  25. it seems very easy for the name of this school to be given. If it had been one of the top schools on the island the name would not have been mentioned. This double standard in this country has to stop. a school is a school, the name of that school should not have been mentioned. SMH
