Saint Lucia’s Stephanie Devaux-Lovell will represent the nation in the women’s Laser Radial sailing event at this summer’s Pan Am Games in Toronto, Canada.
That development arose when 19-year-old Stephi completed last week’s Miami Olympic Classes Regatta in 54th position overall. She grabbed one of the three available spots for Pan Am Games qualifying in the process.
After four days of inconsistent sailing, including a day of brilliance and one on which everything seemed to go against her, Stephi ended up making the Pan Am mark without hitting the water.
On Friday, sitting in second place as far as Pan Am qualifying was concerned; Stephi was preparing to sail in the Silver fleet. Whether good news or bad, the two races in her fleet never came off on the final day, locking in her position from Thursday.
The 2015 Pan American Games, officially the XVII Pan American Games will be held from 10-26 July in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The sailing competition, 12-19 July, will be at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club’s ferry station and parking lot on the Toronto side of the harbour.
