St. Lucia’s Edgar and Poleon help Wiley College lift RRAC titles

aee0d05a-d8fb-4dc0-bd5b-659444f88eb1Saint Lucian runners Marbeq Edgar (La Pointe, Choiseul) and Natasha Poleon (Morne Catenne, Vieux Fort) played major roles in the nationally-ranked Wiley College men’s and womens’ track and field team winning their third and second straight Red River Athletic Conference Championships, respectively, at Wheatley Heights Sports Complex in San Antonio on the weekend.

The Wildcats men scored 203.5 points, 100.5 more than second-place Langston. Marbeq and Leonard Kiprono each picked up their second conference titles. Marbeq won the 1500m run in 4:04.14. Kiprono finished fourth at 4:13.25. Edgar finished second in the 800m run in 1:53.08. Kiprono won the 5000m run in 16:15.22. Edgar finished third in 16:41.28.

The Lady Wildcats went first through fourth in the 400m dash and the 200m dash. Natasha ran 55.80 to place second, agonisingly close to resetting her personal record. Wiley scored 29 points in the event.

Meanwhile Terissa Mark ran a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics time of 24.89 to win the 200. Natasha was a bridesmaid again, following at 25.14 and a third teammate – Kenisha Arthur (JR/Chaguanas, Trinidad) – was third at 25.26.
