Saint Lucia started accepting applications for citizenship by investment from January 1, 2016.

This follows an announcement made by Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony during his opening address to the Global Citizens Forum in Monaco last October.

Dr Anthony described himself as a jealous guardian of Saint Lucian citizenship, but noted the time had come to think beyond traditional approaches in order to deal with the challenges that small states face. Citizenship through investment, he said, has become a viable alternative.

The Prime Minister informed the gathering of citizenship lawyers, wealth managers, marketing agents, investors and VIPs that Saint Lucia, by accepting new citizens, would not just be offering citizenship but would be offering an identity, a people, and Saint Lucia’s place in the world.

He stressed that new citizens must enhance Saint Lucia’s global standing and ensure that the country’s proud heritage endures.

The Prime Minister also outlined the principles and characteristics of the programme to be implemented. He noted the legislation establishing the programme was supported without political rancor, with the blessing of both the ruling government and opposition parties.

  1. Kenny is a terribly desperate man and politician. Such people who are extremely hungry to hold on to power whatever the costs, are not a little dangerous.

"But Brutus is an honourable man." His equally desperate minions would care less what happens to the rest of us, as long as they can line their pockets with their 30 pieces of silver with accounts and investments overseas.

Traitors, they sell the country and have those with deep pockets from overseas, hold the rest of us in the new form of economic slavery. I will forever loathe such people. It is time to get these maggots out of government for good!

    • I think that you got it wrong. Desperate men always operate on the edge. They are careless. Only what they want for themselves becomes important.
That is why we have those that are legally caught as our rogues, bandits, criminals and murderers. Most Saint Lucians know this already. Only fools would see it differently, that this SLP CIP is an alleged overt act of extreme and desperate party political banditry.

  2. When one follows the St. Kitts, Antigua and Dominica CIP situations and combine them with the unscrupulous former Nigerian oil mInister and the desperate needs of St. ucia's new Ambassador Prince Juffali there is absolutely no doubt that corruption riddles those specific deals.

Where does all of that place the names of Hilaire and KDA.

It is sad when corrupt and unscrupulous bleed their countries through neferious schemes but it is even more sad when the people of those countries refguse to believe or give tacit endorsement to those deals in the name of D Party. At the end of the day those corrupt politicians and top party facilitators all quickly and simply move on with their ill gotten wealth, forget D Party, forget country and leave their blind supporters (whose votes kept them in power) all still in the cold of their poverty. Those corrupt individuals move on into retirement to enjoy their assests spread around in Miami and Europe in the forms of investments and properties. Meanwhile the poor supporter, for the many years, remains in his little 2X4 $100 a month rented property often jobless or with no job at all

  3. Need the Government to look at AGRICULTURE CLOSELY as part of the Citizenship by Investment program. We lots of wealthy Families out there who are farmers and may be very interested in obtaining a second PASSPORT or just looking at a different place to grow a particular crop. The gov should consider putting a agriculture section in the CIP which in turn can create JOBS for our people.

    • The British do not even need to worry about the outcome of Kenny and Co. Lucians will take care of the crooks at the ballot box. They did not learn their lesson in 2006 and 20 years before that. They are incapable of learning and governing. My country is run like the boys club and players club. whatever kenny boys do he accept. throwing my country over the precipice by some red miscreant and you silent aiding and abetting everything. and you are supposed to be the leader of government. you and the gang will have to go.

  4. I have read the comments and quite frankly I am just disgusted. Why is it all about Kenny?! I have not seen any one person made a meaningful suggestion to improve the programme or announce an alternative solution to help St Lucia stay afloat in this most challenging time. The persons who are bashing Kenny, do your'll realise that citizen by investment programmes are implemented in many developed countries including the USA, Canada and Austrailia to mention a few. St Lucia is a member of an economic union (OECS), with most of the other islands having implemented this programme. So like it or not, we would be impacted by this programme regardless of us implementing. In simple terms, a citizen of any OECS island is free to move and work in any other island. So please lets use this medium wisely and make suggestions which will benefit our country as opposed to voicing uninformed opinions.

    • I am still awaiting your meaningful suggestions. I was expecting a suggestion from you in relation to how YOU would improve the CIP program.

Do you also realize that the first world countries you mentioned namely the US, Canada etc have the resources to properly vet and scrutinize anyone seeking citizenship from their country? To mention these countries and our third world islands in the same breath is just plain ignorant.

Are you aware that the US has voiced their concern over St.Kitts buy a passport program?
Are you aware that Canada has waived the visa free travel for St.Kitts and Nevis because of the buy a passport program.
Do you think it is because they just wanted to flex their muscles?
NO. It is because they realize that there were gaps , most probably influence by greed , lack of due diligence etc that compromises the program, and they would go at whatever lengths to protect their borders and citizens even if they might have similar programs.
What this might create is erosion of the confidence these countries have in us.

In case you don't realize the mighty US can flex their muscles anywhere and through whatever means. Look at money laundering laws for instance, trust me all what your banks are requesting is not just because of protecting themselves, it has to do very much with the mighty US flexing their muscles.

You never know what these nations especially the US can impose on us, if this is not done right. Even if St.Lucia was to get it right , you never know how the actions of the other islands might cause a trickle effect.
We are tourism based islands. Those countries you have mention here, have plenty resources. what do we have? Nothing. How are you so sure that the benefits to such a program for tourist based third world islands is not only short term, but could have long term detrimental negative effects, long after the those who implemented it are 6 feet under or has enough money to become citizens in first world countries.

Since you have not suggested anything, I will suggest that the government be proactive and not adopt a reactive stance. They would need to pay attention to effects on the countries such as St.Kitts and ensure they mitigate against such occurrences that would result in removal of visa free travel or certain "privileges" we currently enjoy.

    • U must be one of the SLP hacks that will get money from the CIP. What exactly does this programme do for St. Lucia except put money in SLP labour hacks pockets. How does the country on a whole benefit from this kind on slackness. You want money without making an honest days work. That is why you SLP people sell diplomacy for money and with passport selling you and your kind are up to more bobol. That is the concern of the greater number of citizens of this country. The concern is not with which country has it or not. Your argument is flawed and at worst self serving but so not surprising. SLP has proven themselves to be as we used to say on the school playground , "stealers, liars, cheaters." This programme needs to closed down so you and your ilk will not gain any further from the international malproptay all of you have practiced. Kenny Anthony has been given until his birthday to lift immunity for Juffalli, WE THE PEOPLE are waiting to see the outcome.

  5. To hell with all the people that express their concerns about this program it looks like.. Don't worry kenny do what you feel like your day will come when you ring that bell .. this program has so much problems in it and people that ask to revise this policy was being called anti st.lucian , not patriotic and a whole bunch of nonsense. This is a communist government that manipulates their people and do what the hell they feel like whiles they use st.lucian gold fish mentality to their full advantage. WAKE THE HELL UP LUCIANS !!!!!

    (15)(1)

  6. If ever there was crap, this is it. This garbage could only bring humiliation to my homeland. The argument for the program is that it will bring a few extra pesos. At what cost? We have seen the opening stages of this program and it stinks. Kenny is just a fat idiot who has simply ran out of ideas. It may be time for the guy to start taking his afternoon naps.

    (14)(1)

  7. This needs more time and secure plans am very concerned about this take a look at St Kitts and with St Lucia's track record... I don't think we're ready for this Jelly yet

    (9)(0)

  8. IT WILL BE EASIER FOR RICH FOREIGNERS WITH QUESTIONABLE CHARACTERS TO BECOME SAINT LUCIANS AND MORE DIFFICULT FOR HARD WORKING HONEST SAINT LUCIANS TO OWN PROPERTY IN SAINT LUCIA AND TO TRAVEL OVERSEAS. BLACK PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS HARASSED MORE WHEN THEY TRAVEL. ALSO WITH HIS PENCHANT FOR WEALTHY ARABS WHO.KNOW HOW MANY TERRORISTS WILL BECOME SAINT LUCIAN CITIZENS. LORD HELP US! WE ARE LOSING GROUND!

    (23)(2)

  9. I am not loosing any sleep over CIP, reason being the Billionaires have all lost faith in Kenny and his useless boys, No right thinking billionaire will invest in St. Lucia under the Kenny administration. If any billionaire invest it will be the lowest of the low, those who are billionaires on paper, those who cannot offer anything. Farewell Kenny

    (8)(0)

    • Its not the billionaires you have to worry about. Our passport is now ranked 31 and we can enter 105 countries without visa. This will change and our passport will become slowly useless. Soon the EU will revoke that visa free thing they just passed. It will become more and more difficult for us born and bred St. Lucians to move through the world. Kenny you screw it up for all of us who has made this country what it is for a few dollars in your pocket. One day St. Lucians will stop being docile and dek dek.

      (9)(0)

  10. Want it or not LUCIANS......---Hilaire and his CIP is here! If yall think the last four years was hell yall eh see nothing yet!

    (31)(0)

  11. WHY OH WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO BE A ST. LUCIAN? IF YOU HAVE MEANS, AND YOUR MONEY IS LEGIT, THEN THERE ARE ALREADY EASY AVENUES TO DO BUSINESS IN ST. LUCIA! IN FACT, A FOREIGNER IS MORE ABLE TO OPEN A BUSINESS IN ST. LUCIA WITH LESS ENCUMBERANCES THAN A NATIONAL. SO WHY AGAIN WOULD WE HAVE A CITIZEN BY INVESTMENT PROGRAMME? KENNY IS A MADMAN, AND SO ARE THE REST OF THESE PRIME MINISTERS OF THESE SMALL ISLANDS. THIS CITIZEN BY INVESTMENT DEAL IS A WAY TO HIDE MONEY OR FOR PEOPLE TO HIDE MONEY. IT WILL GET US INTO A WHOLE LOT OF COW POOP WHEN WE HAND OUR PASSPORT TO SOMEONE WHO THE WORLD REALLY HATES. IT HAS ALREADY GOT US IN TROUBLE WITH THE SAUDI DIABETES DUDE. IT HAS COST HILLAIRE HIS POLITICAL CAREER, AND IT WILL PUT KENNY TO PASTURE. ALL SLAPPERS ARE SCARED AND THE UK IS ABOUT TO PUT VISA RESTRICTIONS ON ST. LUCIANS.....

  12. This is it folks, our island which we loved so dearly is being lost. Our youth are going to be the one to suffer the most. Where are the youth organizations NYC etc to advocate against this program for the sake of our young people. Ask a few Antiguan young people what they have to go through now due to this program.

    (8)(0)

  13. We need a credible third party to vet these people, something like Scotland Yard etc...but then again, politicians are good at doing funky things under the table.

    (18)(0)

  14. This might will bring in some money but at what cost?
Sorry, but I don't think we have the means to properly scrutinize these "new citizens".

    (16)(1)

    • Who cannot see through this one is as blind as a bat. C.I.P. Cash in Politicians Pocket.

This programme is the worst thought out plan ever devised by a government to improve a country's economic situation. We can be guaranteed that there will be no benefit to the people or the country.
People invest in another country only if the conditions in that country are conducive to making a profit, people usually want to get citizenship in another country if they are running from something or are looking to hide. Home is where the heart is and you cannot buy that. i am totally against the programme and will never support a government that approves that garbage.
