Local umpires met under the auspices of the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association on Saturday at Mindoo Phillip Park. The general meeting would have had high on its agenda recognition for three freshly minted officials.

The Saint Lucia Cricket Umpires Association last week extended formal congratulations to three of its members on their success at examinations staged by the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association.

Mervin James scored a total of 94.5%, reportedly placing him third out of a total of 43 regional umpires, and fully qualifying him to stand in regional competition.

Also succeeding in the written exams, and thereby satisfying a portion of the qualification criteria, were Johan William of Choiseul and former Saint Lucia women’s cricket captain, Roylin Cooper.

Roylin made her own slice of history, becoming the first Saint Lucian woman to sit and succeed this component of the exam.
