Fresh off multiple nominations including two for International Soca Producer at the Soca Music Awards to be held on October 27 in the United Kingdom, Dutch Productions has released “Ramen” on the Riddim of the same name.
Written by Ambroise “Ambi” Joseph and Courtney “Curty” Louis, the song was released this week to local and regional radio.
It is a satirical take on the recently introduced Value Added Tax. Focused as it is on the relationship between a man and his woman as they become accustomed to the extra 15 percent charged on VAT goods, “Ramen” is accompanied by a video that was directed by Ted Sandiford of Acid Kreationz.
With lyrics about grocery shopping and window browsing as well as restaurant meals put out of reach by the new tax, “Ramen” is sure to resonate with all Saint Lucians and anyone whose life has been curtailed by government taxes.
Ambi who is accompanied by Q-Pid on the track just returned from New York where he alongside Mongstar, Superman HD and Ricky T performed for Labour Day and at other private events in the tri-state area. 2012 was his best season to date – he came third in the Groovy Soca Monarch competition with “Roll” and second in the Power Soca Monarch competition with “Chanting.”
Ambi gave audiences a hint of “Ramen” towards the latter part of the Carnival season, teasing them with “Burger King/No Burger King/ Go down by Burger Plus and buy a chicken wing/ Chicken Wing/4-something/Go at home and cook a pack of chow mien.”
The song will soon be joined by others on the Riddim; tracks by Superman HD, Marie-Anne, Selector Twis, Scady dot P and Jay Budz.
Kareem Stanley of Meerakulos Art was the Director of Photography for the “Ramen” video which can be viewed at http://www.mediafire.com/?wdh5b2evaetl8vx. So listen and request it on radio or watch it on your PC because “Ramen” is here to take the pressure off your VAT woes.
