Two weeks ago, Rubinas Edwin, who was staying at King’s Street, The City, appeared in Court No. 1 of the District “A” Magistrates’ Court, and pleaded guilty to wounding Kensley Jacob on March 5.
At that time, Magistrate Douglas Frederick fined him $2,000 forthwith and a relative had undertaken to provide the money for the return ticket to St. Lucia.
However, Edwin and his family member returned to court yesterday and the relative revealed he had been unable to come up with the fine or the plane fare. As a result, the magistrate jailed Edwin for a month–the alternative to the forthwith fine–and ordered that at the end of the sentence he be released into the custody of Immigration officials for deportation.
