Miss Johnny, daughter of Gorge and Helena Johnny, excelled in the online Bachelor of Education in Secondary Mathematics Education programme from the Open Campus and received first class honours. Miss Jonny, who plans to continue teaching mathematics at the Choiseul Secondary School in Saint Lucia., said it is an honour to have been selected to represent her peers.

“I have always taken advantage of every opportunity given to me, pushed myself, and been proud of staying on top of everything,” Miss Johnny said. “I am very happy to have joined the UWI Open Campus to complete my first degree. All the support given to me was excellent and I made good friends across the region. It’s a good feeling to know that the hard work over the years has taken me here.”

In addition to her accomplishments in the online classroom, Miss Johnny attended the all-girls’ secondary school, the St. Joseph’s Convent Secondary School in St. Lucia, earning eight CXC subjects, capped with an award for her excellent results in Mathematics. Miss Johnny proceeded to the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College to successfully complete A-Level subjects in Mathematics, Physics and Geography.

Returning to the St. Joseph’s Convent Secondary School in 2001, she worked for two years as a Laboratory Technician. It was her experience and talent for teaching that emboldened her to apply for a full-time teaching position in Mathematics and Integrated Science at the same institution the following year.

She returned to the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College to pursue an Associate Degree in Secondary Teacher Education, majoring in Mathematics and Science at the Division of Teacher Education and Educational Administration. She was awarded Best Overall Achievement, after which she returned to St. Joseph’s as teacher of mathematics and physics.

While still working, she enrolled with the UWI Open Campus in 2009 to read for the online Bachelor of Education Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education. Beyond her academic and career achievements, Miss Johnny is also a single parent of a daughter and also enjoys walking, listening to music, reading and football.

We are proud that Miss Johnny chose the UWI Open Campus to fulfill her dream and salute her academic accomplishments so far.
