A 31-year-old man is missing and three other men have been taken to hospital after being pulled from the sea off the coast of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Hayes Lawrence, a certified diver, left Vieux Fort for St. Vincent along with three men on Thursday, December 1, 2016 but the boat they were traveling on encountered engine problem and capsized.

According to his sister, Anselma Arthur, the men were rescued by marine officials on St. Vincent. They were taken to hospital where they remain in a serious but stable condition.

However, after several searches by marine officials in that neighbouring island for Lawrence, a father of three who resides at Monchy, Gros Islet, they still did not manage to find him.

“I understood he was going to tour a boat down from St. Vincent…a fishing boat,” Arthur told St. Lucia News Online in an exclusive interview on Monday.

The distraught woman said her family is hoping and praying for his safe return, although the more days that passes by gives authorities a slimmer chance of them ever finding him.

There have been numerous reports of many St. Lucians going missing at sea. While some were rescued, other suffered injuries and a few never made it back home.

The Marine Police in St. Lucia have been advising fishermen and sea travelers to use marine radios.

  1. As much as I sympathies with family and friends, some of these people are just CARELESS!!!! And in their CARELESSNESS they are putting rescuers in potential trouble. How many times do the Authorities have to STRESS the IMPORTANCE of at least a RADIO?
