A man of St. Lucian descent was murdered in London, United Kingdom just before midnight on Friday, August 29.

Anthony ‘Tony’ Charlery, 59, a well-known music promoter who lived in Kensington, was stabbed in the neck as he tried to run from his attackers. He collapsed and died on Portobello Road, west London.

Investigators say Charlery was attacked by two local men as he left the Mau Mau bar in Portobello Road W11. He was alone.

London police said “Tony was a local man and a much loved grandfather. His family are devastated by his death in such a brutal way.”

Charlery, who is from Dennery, often vacationed in St. Lucia.

He is survived by several children and grandchildren.

  2. May I also add that my father came to the UK aged 9!!!! He lived here for over 50 years!!! He was not a tourist and this has nothing to do with St Lucia and the crime and policing in that country. You people have no respect and the ignorance is overwhelmingly poignant!

  3. Anthony Charlery (the victim) is my father. He was not robbed or mugged. Neither was he a violent person or involved in any violence. He died in such a horrific way and I understand people have their own opinions but please be respectful as he is dearly missed and I cry for him every single day.

  5. Sorry, May you rest in perfect peace and I wish that London police get these creatures who did that to you. You're one man that did not deserve this brutal ending to your life.

  7. St Lucians die in foreign lands all the time by different causes. Let's not carry this away before we know the cause.

  8. The difference between the British police and St.Lucian police is that the British police will arrest the persons involved in this crime and they will be brought to justice.A family is in mourning and St.Lucian's should learn to respect that and stop making all those posting and making irrelevant comments.RIP Anthony

  9. lets hope that the authorities find his killers and they are brought to justice. I can assure you his death will be dealt with much better than the many people in St. Lucia who have been murdered in St. Lucia.

  10. The man was a resident of the UK. He was living there and died there, so thats a UK problem. He wasn't a tourist. How do you compare what is going on here in policing, crime detection and justice and compare that to whats going on within UK borders? What is the point in making a fuss when a person gets killed in the UK in population of millions. It could have been an african, jew, jamaican whatever. The point is when a visitor dies in a population of a 200,000 people it goes sharpely into focus. Besides St. Lucia has never been associated with that kind of violence from the outside world.

We in St. Lucia have a problem where attacks are made on visitors to our shores. You don't hear the UK and other countries claiming tourism to be their own, thereby actually depending solely on it for a living.

WE are making those claims on our tourism industry. We advertise to the world that we are a safe, fun filled destination. So what do you expect if we cannot own up?

Don't go on a campaigne of ignorance deal withh te facts. GOT MONEY???

  11. Now, it is our turn to send reporters and television crews to England to cover the death of this St.Lucian national, and to denounce England the way they usually denounce us.

  12. I think it was unfortunate that this robbery turned fatal as some robberys happen with tourists as well in St.Lucia. British Nationals are not on the alert for St.Lucians to kill them whenever the possibility arise for crimes committed on British nationals here that is rubbish i do sympathise with this family and may god rest his soul. Crime is everywhere give and take.

  17. Where is the OUTRAGE from most of the Major UK newspapers especially "The Mail Online"

Why haven't the British News Carriers Sensationalise this, so we can see the British people as the cave beast that our forefathers use to chase into the caves, because they were known savages during our reign on this planet?

    Where is thee Outrage?

    • Wait for the facts before demanding outrage. it has been all over the news, so I don't know what you're after. It does not look like a random attack. I am quite sure British police will get to the bottom of it quicker than their Lucian counterparts..

    • what is your point? how do come to that conclusion that the British people are cave beast the majority of black people who have been murdered in London by Black people, it is called Black on Black killing.
this murder has been reported in the media newspaper and television. I am sure in quick time the killers will be caught. So get over it Jack.

  18. come on, I doubt we have this much time on our hands in Britain to retaliate against saint lucians because a few Brits died in your country. Lots of British people die all over the world we have a population of 60 million or more you know, it makes the news then it becomes yesterdays news the next day. Have a look at how many of them are killed in Vietnam, Thailand and Bali yearly are we also retaliating against those countries for the deaths? tut...

London is a violent city like most cities where there is an influx of migrants, people are losing jobs, homelessness, drug issues, mental health issues etc. and with all of these come a great number of social issues.

Its sad that this gentleman was stabbed and murdered, I don't think anyone deserves to die in this manner. My condolences to his family.

  19. Somewhere dem der the holy lot Lord put a hand put a foot or the KDA hate brigade it's Kennyndat cause dat!? Crime is everywhere, not only St Lucia!

    • I would like to express my sincerest condolences to his friends and family. Innocent victim or not, nobody deserves to die like that. I am very sorry for your loss.

I wonder if we'll ever read anything in the Daily Mail about it. Lord knows that they are quick to run a headline when a Briton gets hurt here.

Finally, please excuse Bwet CuCu here. Apparently he has do defend KDA like the good little minion that he/she is without a thought for the people who knew and loved this man. Never mind that almost all St. Lucians blame him the sorry state of our economy. 25% unemployment. Cost of living going up 20% or more in 2 years. And worse, little hope of improvement any time soon.

No, you have to come out and defend him on a matter where no one has pointed a finger at him. Really? Is that the best thing that you could think of to post here? I feel sorry for you. Yours must be a lonely existence. You and Jadia should get a room.

      Get over yourself.

  20. I sense some form of retaliation for all the British being killed in Saint Lucia. Was this a robbery gone wrong? Or was he into something we don't know about? Business deal gone sour? Doesn't say much and doesn't look like he has any known enemies.
