Nelson Mandela claims “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” Understanding the importance of Literacy in acquiring knowledge, Volunteer St.Lucia Vieux-Fort Chapter hosts Literacy and Music Exposés annually in an attempt to develop and maintain a culture of reading which we believe is crucial for overall development.
Volunteer St.Lucia Vieux Fort Chapter is comprised of a small group of community-oriented, dedicated individuals passionate about making a valid contribution to the growth and development of their country.
The Chapter finds the perfect opportunity to develop a culture of reading in the month of May- reading month. The Literacy and Music Exposé was designed to effectively foster learning through the incorporation of fun and entertainment while stimulating and challenging the minds of children through a variety of activities.
The FUN-damental Literacy Exposé is scheduled for Saturday, May 14th 2016 at 10:00am at the Independence Square in Vieux-Fort, free of charge. Children of all ages are encouraged to take full advantage of this opportunity.
Children will participate in several literacy activities including; small group reading sessions with entertaining readers, reading boot camp, treasure hunt, performance poetry, Creole poetry, and traditional storytelling by captivating orators. Prizes will be awarded to children who participate in these activities. Also, these activities will be supplemented by entertainment including a bouncing castle, steel pan music, charades, bookmark making, art, singing, dancing, guaranteed to make the event an indelible one.
