St. Lucia victorious at regional culinary challenge in Barbados

A team of four which represented the island at the Caribbean Junior Dueling Challenge (CJDC) in Barbados on August 23-25, 2013 have received top honors.

Recent Soufriere Comprehensive School graduates Neka André and Tessa Wilson, their Home Economics Teacher Nashaka Charlery and coach Chef Elija Jules of Jade Mountain formed that contingent.

According to a press release, Team St. Lucia reigned victorious over six regional teams which participated in the culinary challenge. They were Dominica, St. Croix, St. Vincent, Guyana, Grenada and host country Barbados.

The secondary school competition involved two rounds – a Signature Dish and a Mystery Basket segment.

“The performance of the Saint Lucia team was highly acclaimed and that put them in the top position,” the release states.

Prizes received included a trophy for the Caribbean Junior Dueling Champions 2013; a gold medal for each team member for the highest mark in the signature dish round and the Mystery Basket Round and the prize for best flavor overall.

The team is scheduled to return to Saint Lucia at 2.45 p.m on August 26, 2013.
