St. Lucia top OECS Boxing Championship

Host country St. Lucia emerged champions at the revived 2013 OECS Boxing Championships which concluded Saturday evening at the Vigie Multi-purpose Sports Complex.

St.Lucia topped the medal count, finishing with four gold medals and three silver medals. St. Vincent were second with two gold, a silver and a bronze. Dominica also had two gold, one silver and a bronze, with Grenada in fourth position with two silver medals.

For St. Lucia, the gold medal winners were: bantamweight Heslie Louis, light welterweight Lyndell “the Russian” Marcellin, middleweight “the dreadlocked” Arthur Langilier, and UK-based heavyweight Ryan Charles.

Flyweight Trevon Lynch, lightweight Alex Poyotte and welterweight Kyghan “The Hit Man” Mortley all won silver medals.

UK-based Charles, who won both of his bouts via the knockout route, was named boxer of the tournament.

The St. Lucia team was coached by Conrad Fredericks with Miguel Auguste as assistant coach and Brian McDonald as team manager.
