St. Lucia to participate in Fête de la Musique celebrations

St. Lucia will for the first time join more than 100 countries over the world in hosting a special musical event as part of La Fête de la Musique (World Music Day) which is observed on June 21.

A lyrical concert and chamber ensemble will take place at the Cathedral of Castries from 6-8 p.m. on that day.

This is being organized by the Alliance Francaise in collaboration with the French and Brazilian embassies and the St. Lucia School of Music.

The free concert is open to everyone with the kind permission of the church, according to a press release.

La Fête de la Musique was launched in 1982 by the French Ministry for Culture in France. It is a day which allows the expression of all styles of music from various spheres. It is also an opportunity for musicians to gain popularity.

“It gives an opportunity to communicate and share a very special moment through music,” the release said.

The festival is said to display a constant capacity to reinvent itself in an “ingenious and vivacious” manner.
