St. Lucia men’s volleyball team seeks gold at ECVA championships

An 11-member St. Lucia men’s volleyball team will compete against six regional squads at the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association’s (ECVA) Championships in St. Maarten on August 15-19, 2013.

The men will come up against the British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Antigua, Dominica and Dutch and French St. Maarten.

The team is as follows: Augustin Faulkner (Captain), Tevin St Jean, Anfernee Ferdinand, Darnell Eudoxie, Kevin Norville, Yann Taupier, Keiran President, Andre Marquis Jr., and Alexander Augier. They will be led by head coach Elvin German and referee Keam Charlery.

They are scheduled to depart the island today, August 15 and return on August 19.

According to a press release, the 2013 ECVA Junior Champions are also set. These games serve as a qualifier for ECVA teams – one male and one female – to compete in the 2014 North, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) Continental Championship.

In addition, the St. Lucia Volleyball Association’s said it has been having quite a busy year as the island prepares to host the ECVA Female Championships on August 21-25 at the Beausejour Indoor Practice Facility. St. Vincent, French St. Maarten, Antigua and St. Lucia will participate at that meet.

The contingent to represent St. Lucia at the junior female championship will be announced at a later date.

“Volleyball is in full swing in St. Lucia as youth –  junior and senior, in both male and female divisions in both formats of the sport …have been preparing and competing in regional and international competitions in 2013,” the release said.

Meanwhile, a Youth Olympics Beach Volleyball Clinic is underway at Choc Beach for a two-week period – August-5-19, under the Supervision of Florian Combie.
