PRESS RELEASE – The St. Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF) held the official contract signing ceremony for the construction of the George Charles Boulevard Public Facility and the Ravine Poisson Public Sanitation Facility Replacement on Friday 27th November 2015.
In both instances, the SSDF has obtained funding from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) to provide public sanitation facilities for the host communities.
Acting Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for Castries East Hon. Philip J. Pierre said the Official Contract Signing Ceremony for the construction of the George Charles Boulevard Pubic Facility is another Election Promise to his constituents fulfilled. This facility is in addition to three major social projects that Hon. Philip. J. Pierre has ensured are completed during this term of office.
In addressing the ceremony, Hon. Philip J. Pierre noted that some persons in our society would describe the construction of this facility as cynical or just politics; however he views the public facility necessary to improving the overall well being and health of the residents.
Minister for Social Transformation, Local Government said that the needs assessment conducted by the SSDF informed the communities chosen for these projects. A total of over three hundred residents are expected to benefit from this facility. The facilities will be equipped with hot and cold water, and access for persons with disabilities has been considered in the designs.
A total of over $1 Million is being spent on the two facilities, and construction is expected to be completed within the next six months.
