(PRESS RELEASE) – The Soufriere Regional Development Foundation has once again been recognized for its tremendous contribution towards the development of the Soufriere region.
At an annual award presentation ceremony, the Soufriere Foundation received the award for Community Benefit. This most prestigious award was presented by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO).
The Caribbean Tourism Organization’s website describes the institution as “the region’s tourism development agency”. It is comprised of twenty-eight (28) Dutch, English, French and Spanish country members and a multitude of private sector federated members. The website further states that “the CTO’s vision is to position the Caribbean as the most desirable, year round, warm weather destination”.
The Caribbean Tourism Awards are geared chiefly towards the identification and exhibition of quality Sustainable Tourism Practices in the Caribbean. The awards recognize individuals, groups, organizations and companies in any of the Caribbean Tourism Organization Member Countries which have developed responsible and unique tourism products or are engaged in implementing sustainable tourism related initiatives which embrace sustainable concepts and core values.
Early in 2017, The Caribbean Tourism Organization invited Department of Tourism, Information & Broadcasting to nominate various tourism stakeholders for their annual Tourism Sustainable Awards.
Later during the year in October, CTO communicated with the Ministry of Tourism, Information & Broadcasting that the SRDF was the recipient of the award for Community Benefit.
To highlight the significance of such an accomplishment, the senior tourism officer in the Department of Tourism, Information and Broadcasting, Ms. Girdari stated, “To have our local entity, which has done so much over the years and continue to do so. That’s a very good practice. The long and short of it is that the SRDF has been doing many wonderful things within the Soufriere region and clearly it has been noticed.”
A small ceremony was held at the Soufriere Foundation’s boardroom where a hand carved larva stone trophy was presented to Mr. Lester Cazaubon, Human Resource Manager at the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation. A delighted and palpably proud Mr. Cazaubon remarked “It really is the first time that the Soufriere Foundation has won a major award of such repute. For us this is really the start of a lot of good things. We are looking into the future in making sure that it is not a one off.”
