SRDF wardens receive special police constable graining

(PRESS RELEASE) – The Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF) in collaboration with the Royal St. Lucia Police Force embarked on a Security Training Course in an effort to bring the Wardens closer to attaining Special Police Constable status.

According to Chief Security Officer, Nicholas Nestor, “the training is envisioned to assist in curbing the myriad of problems faced at the operational sites and facilities; especially visitor harassment and soliciting.”

He further stated that the wardens are at the forefront of all the activities at the sites therefore it is imperative that they are equipped with skills and procedural knowledge in law enforcement to adequately function.

The organisation is fast growing and committed to creating a well-trained and competent core of Wardens for the security of the sites and facilities entrusted in its care and the safety of visitors and local patrons alike.

A total of fifteen (15) wardens will endure a ten (10) day training programme which commenced on Monday 4th September 2017 and ends on Friday 15th September 2017, at the Police Training Academy situated at La Toc, Castries. The wardens were chosen from three of the operational sites namely the Sulphur Springs Park, Docks and Gros Piton Nature Trail.

The course focused on various areas including Ethics and Professionalism, Assault, Resisting of Arrest and Obstruction of Justice, Court Procedure and Evidence Gathering. The trainees will also be exposed to Weapons training and Range Exercises to complement the program. This exposure is the first of its kind for the company. The organization intends to facilitate its cash escorts at its core revenue centres.

The Soufriere Foundation is a not for profit organisation located in Soufriere. Its mandate is to undertake social, economic, cultural and other sustainable developments in the Soufriere region. The organization which was established in 1993 generates revenues from its operational sites: the Sulphur Springs Park, Gros Piton Nature Trail, Comfort Center, Soufriere jetties and 88.5 Soufriere FM.
