SRDF issues statement on beach vendor’s comments

(PRESS RELEASE) – On Sunday, January 14th, 2018, a press statement surfaced in the media alluding to the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation’s (SRDF) involvement in the expulsion of a vendor at the Hummingbird Beach.

The SRDF wishes to state that these allegations are the furthest from the truth given that a justifiable offer was presented to Ms. Fedelis Francis. The organization had finalized discussions with Ms. Francis and her future status at the Hummingbird Beach in which a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was instituted.

According to Executive Director, Mr. Jimmy Haynes, “We are extremely disappointed that Ms. Francis chose to interpret the situation in the manner that she has. Our offer was finalized with mutual consent in a meeting which took place at her shop on Wednesday, January 10th, 2018. This mutual agreement is captured in the Memorandum of Understanding that was presented to Ms. Francis on Friday morning, January 12th. That is before she contacted the media to complain. That is rather unfortunate.”

Senior Projects Officer, Mr. Malcolm Mathurin provided further clarification on the matter.

“In the MOU, it was agreed that the SRDF will pay her a monthly allowance of $1000.00 for three months (the duration of the phase 1), and priority would be given to her to rent a booth upon completion of the project” he said.

Mathurin also indicated that Ms. Francis agreed that she would remove her structure by January 19, 2018. The organization would be responsible for dismantling her building and transporting it to a new location of her choice.

The agreement further noted that permission would be granted to her for continued vending on the beach while the first phase of the project is ongoing.

We would like to reiterate our commitment to our mission statement which translates into the creation of sustainable livelihoods in Soufriere and we stand resolutely averse to any action that would compromise that position.

The Soufriere Foundation is a not for profit organisation located in Soufriere. Its mandate is to undertake social, economic, cultural and other sustainable developments in the Soufriere region. The organization which was established in 1993 generates revenues from its operational sites: the Sulphur Springs Park, Gros Piton Nature Trail, Comfort Center, Soufriere jetties and 88.5 Soufriere FM.

  1. "Better late than never". Seems like she finally found the written agreement she was seeking. Apologize to the public if you think you rushed to judgement. Otherwise, here is the Deal.

  2. She needs to find a real job. Lazy people just on the beach all day. Give the developer room to improve the beach

    • and since when working for your self is not a real job. so cause the woman not in a office thats not a real Job? what is a real job?

  3. How you know when she contacted the media. I believe her over believing SRDF. You all always think that you all can treat poor people anyhow. Well she stood up for her rights and it does not matter how you all think about her standing up.

    • bet you she is slp and they told her to lie and go to the media. take her shack to vieux fort so Kenny can help her

      • LuciaBOY, grow up. GROW UP its time. End your obsession with Kenny before it destroys you. Your hate filled heart is telling on you.

  4. Sounds like a good deal to me; if it's true. After all we wasn't there to hear the deal. I would love such a deal (money 'if that much is made a month', help in moving, sounds good).

  5. Beach Vendors Comments : Life can be hard sometimes , but we have to look for the good in managing multiple projects with the objective in mind and the deadlines for completion.

It is said : IN THIS WORLD NOTHING IS CONSTANT BUT CHANGE . Progress often masquerade as trouble,, Right now it may seam like you are a victim of organisational change. Looking toward the future , you may feel disappointed , confused , or worried.

But don't jump to conclusion . The truth is you cant really tell yet how you'll be affected by all this . When you are in the middle of change , a lot can happen in a hurry. Give yourself time to get a border range view of the situation. For now , be open minded . in this adversity , I'm sure there is an equal benefit. Please lets get it done for the betterment of our Country. Thanks.

  6. Ms. Francis waypon tet ou. Because either you lying or they lying, cuz the offer they just laid out is a damn good one from what I see, cuz you legally eh have no claim, and they chose to be really nice to you according to the terms indicated in the MOU. Waypon tet ou madam.

    • boiboi, You wrong. She make them waypon tete yo. She stood up and got a nice deal IN WRITING. She has backbone and you have none. And that's the big difference that allow you to write what you wrote.

      • you and her are both idiots. she stood up got a nice deal and is now too stupid to honor. the govt should now take it back.

        • They didn't have to offer her nothing, but a space to rent; when the project is done. It's like giving someone permission to build a wooden structure for two room house on your land and come to fine out they build a three bedroom brick structure and want you to pay them to move. Please. Had it free fo many years.

        • LUCIABOY LUCIABOY LUCIABOY you have guts to refer to anybody as an idiot. However, if you are not an idiot, I am proud being one and least I know I will not make the silly comments that you make.
