The activity, the brainchild of the organization’s social committee, (a standing committee of the SRDF responsible for coordinating social activities for the benefit of the staff), was held in observance of International Women’s Day.
“In keeping with the theme, Be Bold for Change, the committee decided to provide free health screening for staff members, in light of many common non communicable diseases which persons suffer with in this day and age” said Committee President, Tamancia Francois.
Among the services offered were blood sugar and pressure testing , body mass index evaluations, breast examinations, pap smears, HIV testing and free health counselling.
Mr. Anthony Robinson, Health Educator attached to the Soufriere Hospital and coordinator of the exercise was thrilled with the initiative, “It was a befitting exercise to commemorate International Women’s Day,” said Robinson.
He applauded the vision and the intent of the social committee for tying in the exercise with the awareness of women’s rights and wanting to see the social well being of the staff addressed.
International Women’s Day is observed annually on March 8th.
