(PRESS RELEASE) – The Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (S.R.D.F) is working in collaboration with the Soufriere Hospital to effectively respond to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
On Monday, 16th March, 2020, the organization commenced construction of a respiratory clinic at a vacant section on the bottom floor of the Soufriere Hospital. This clinic forms part of a wider initiative by the government of Saint Lucia to build respiratory clinics in several parts of the island.
The S.R.D.F’s intervention is a strategic approach to assist patients experiencing breathing difficulties associated with complications from COVID-19 prior to being transferred to a secondary clinic for specialized care.
Mr. Franklin Solomon, General Manager of the S.R.D.F, expressed that “the S.R.D.F is monitoring the developing situation and has decide to assume an important role in the effort to combat the pandemic. When the Prime Minister announced the government’s intentions to build respiratory clinics to aid in the fight against the COVID-19, we immediately saw the need to render our assistance. This in keeping with our mandate and also joining in this global drive to keep COVID- 19 at bay”.
Senior Projects Officer with the Soufriere Foundation remarked, “I was called upon to oversee the construction of the small respiratory clinic and immediately saw the need to get to work in light of what we are currently facing. So I gathered my team and I am happy to report that we are well on our way to deliver”.
