PRESS RELEASE – South Castries Lionesses recaptured the Alicia John T20 Female trophy which they surrendered last year. In the Final played at the Phillip Marcellin Ground in Vieux Fort, the South Castries ladies defeated Choiseul by 6 wickets.
Batting first Choiseul were restricted to 100/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Julia Simon topped scored with 35 and openers Solange Aubert 13 and Alyer Alfred 11 provided useful support, For South Castries Maria David, Turner Thomas and Nerissa Crafton each picked up one wicket.
Led by a responsible, undefeated 32 from former West Indies and St Lucia alrounder Phillipa Eudovic, South Castries cantered to 103/4 in 15 overs, Skipper Nerissa Crafton 15, Ashlene Edward 13 and Maria David- 10 also contributed with the bat.
The victory by South Castries ensured that they captured both women’s titles on offer for 2016.
The South Castries male team was also in winners row as their opponents Gros Islet, failed to turn up for their Mindoo Phillip Division 1 encounter at the Dennery Cricket Ground.
Meanwhile, the SLNCA is expected to release the names of the 13 players selected to represent the island at this year’s Windwards Senior Tournament scheduled for Grenada at the end of this month.
