Soufriere man fined15K for possession of unlicensed firearm

A Soufriere man was today, Wednesday, March 6 fined $15,000 after he pleaded guilty to firearm offences.

Sylvester Lamontagne, originally of Soufriere but resides at Entrepot, has to pay the 15K fine in three months or in default spend seven years in prison for the possession of an unlicensed firearm charge. He was cautioned, reprimanded and discharged on the charge of possession of ammunition.

He pleaded guilty to both charges.

According to police, on Monday, March 4, 2013, at about 9:20 pm, officers attached to the Major Crimes Unit, acted upon information and intercepted a motor vehicle which was travelling on the Ti Colon Road.

A search was conducted on that vehicle and a .380 pistol was recovered with two live rounds of ammunition. Consequently, the 25-year-old Lamontagne was arrested and charged.
