Soufriere Foundation launches Medical Assistance Fund

unnamed-3PRESS RELEASE – On Thursday, March 2nd, 2017, the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF) officially launched a Medical Assistance Fund with the intent on mitigating the inability of the organization to honour the numerous appeals for financial medical aide on a monthly basis.

Over recent time, Saint Lucia has been in the spot light given the 2007 study published by Urologist Dr. Michael Graven, which sited that 6.1% of the population was diabetic, representing the highest per capita in the world. As a direct effect, the forecast was for a doubling of associated health complications such as strokes, cardiac arrest and renal failure cases every four years.

Unfortunately, the stark reality of the study has manifested itself to the organization through the numerous appeals for financial assistance for the treatment of diabetic related conditions and other associated disorders from the less financially capable.

According to the Chairman of the SRDF, Mr. Nigel George, “We know that people get sick all the time and those bills can be exorbitant, this is a worthy initiative and will help alleviate the burden of debt.”

The fund will be serviced through the solicitation of contributions to partner with the program by visitors to our operational sites (through designated marked boxes) and direct funding from the SRDF.

An advisory committee will manage the vetting of requests and budgetary control.

The Soufriere Foundation is a non-profit company located in Soufriere.
