The second race of the Saint Lucia National Lotteries Authority Community Cycling Series takes place on Sunday 21 September from 7.30am in Dennery.
The race will start at the Dennery village waterfront near the courthouse, travel north, then west up the La Pointe Hill to the fire station turn south (or left) on the highway toward Vieux Fort and then east (left) back into Dennery village to complete one 3.2km lap.
The open category along with juveniles aged 15-16 will complete 20 laps covering a total distance of 64km. The 13-14 age group along with Masters over 50 years will complete 12 laps or 38km.
A mountain bike category will also be included and cover 12 laps or 38km. The Cycling Association will also have a 500m BMX event. All BMX and Mountain bike riders are invited to join the road riders for this exciting event, in particular riders from surrounding communities of Dennery Valley, Mon Repos and Micoud.
Last Sunday, in the opening race at Praslin, Kurt Maraj won the Open Category in an 80km race, finishing in 2:22:7.94 seconds, just ahead of Fidel Esnard and Kirk Maraj in a sprint finish.
Dave Charlery of Mon Repos took the Junior title in a 48km race, which he covered in 1:29:39.94, averaging 32.12km/hr and lapping his rivals, including Calixte Williams, Janick Paul and Josiah Murrell of Excellers.
