When vendors at the Castries market discovered a small snake among a bunch of green plantains early Monday morning, St. Lucia News Online (SNO) was told that several people joked that the snake arrived early for Carnival.

However, others did not find the incident so funny, as it is suspected that the reptile is the deadly Fer-de-Lance which has accounted for the deaths of several St. Lucians over the past five years.

Sources told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) that the serpent was placed in a plastic bottle with the help of the police and handed over to Forestry Department officials.

It is believed that the plantains are from a farm in Bexon, Castries.

  7. This species of snake once existed as far north as the Caribbean Cinemas area , but I'm more worried about the two legged ones. I'm happy no one was bitten.
