The Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has taken issue with what it said are “venomous attacks” by Jeff Fedee against the Leader of the party and Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony.
In a press release, the SLP pointed to recent public comments reportedly coming from Fedee which were “outrageous” and “unwarranted”.
Among what was highlighted in the release, were statements Fadee allegedly made during an interview on local television, in which he labeled comments from the prime minister as vilifying and insulting.
The SLP explained that, “On Sunday August 4, at a conference of the SLP’s Castries North Constituency Group, the SLP Leader responded to Allen Chastanet’s stated claim that his election as political leader of the UWP on Sunday July 29, 2013 was responsible for reductions in prices of petroleum products announced on Monday 30 July, which was the day after his election. Dr. Anthony said that (paraphrasing) Chastanet must be a magician to be able to reduce petroleum prices the day after he becomes UWP leader and that if he is such a magician he should then reduce the prices of goods at CFL.”
“The SLP points to an interview done by Jeff Fedee, carried on DBS television on Tuesday night, where Mr. Fedee describes this statement by Dr. Anthony’s as ‘vilifying [Mr. Chastanet] in the most insulting language’. No right thinking person could have arrived at such an outrageous conclusion and therefore the SLP spoke to Fedee’s description of a response to the prime minister’s comments,” the SLP’s release said.
The party further denied being responsible for bringing Consolidated Foods Limited (CFL) “into the political fray” and called for answers with regards to UWP leader Allen Chastanet’s interest in the company.
“…If CFL’s face is emerging in the political arena, it was brought in by Allen and Michael Chastanet. Further if it is true, as stated by Jeff Fedee, that Allen Chastanet has nothing to do with the operations of CFL, why then has Allen been suggesting that if he is elected to government he will bring the CFL’s success to the management of the country?”
“The SLP goes further to ask Jeff Fedee again, if Allen Chastanet has nothing to do with the success of CFL, as he [Fedee] has stated, what then is the management experience he [Allen] is promising to bring to government?”
The SLP additionally asked Fedee “to cool down and stop his unwarranted venomous attacks on Prime Minister Kenny D. Anthony.”
