SLP questions Stephenson King’s double standards on consultants

Below is a statement from the Saint Lucia Labour Party circulated to all media houses

Six days after Prime Minister Kenny D. Anthony revealed in his address to the nation (February 27) the huge numbers of persons employed by the King administration without the approval of the Public Service Commission, the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) calls on the Leader of the Opposition to provide a justification for this unprecedented inflation in government’s wage bill which took place under his watch.

The SLP contends that King and other UWP spokespersons have introduced the name “consultants” to describe all persons who were not employed through the Public Service. Using the UWP’s own terminology, Prime Minister Anthony revealed that over 141 such persons were employed by the UWP administration while Stephenson King was prime minister.  In the Ministry of Finance alone, 42 such persons were employed at salaries as high as $20,000 and $16800, placing their basic salaries well above $12,831 which is the maximum allowed in the government’s salary scale.

Since Opposition Leader Stephenson King was leading the charge against consultants, the SLP calls on him to break his six-day silence on this matter  and provide the public with an explanation of his double standards, and what can only be described as reckless behavior while he was the country’s minister of finance.

  2. i mean this comes across as being very foolish on the part of the government/party for coming up with this release at this time, it serves as comfort to only the hardest or core supporters. do they really think that our memories are so short? do they actually think the tactics of past will somehow save them? the main issue is, that the labour party campaigned and sort a mandate saying that they are better managers than the past administration when all we are seeing right now is a slew of broken promises and a team, though well qualified on paper, which is totally incompetent when it comes to running a country and who seems more concerned about giving back to their core supporters. things are getting harder and the honeymoon is over, so they better start working or this will be a very short stint in power

  5. If you all think St Lucians are not tired of this back and fourth, look no further than on the streets of the island.

The people are basically tired of this. Where are the jobs, what are you doing to solve crime, why is it that King hire and you yourself doing the same???
