SLP expresses condolences to families of quarry explosion victims

PRESS RELEASE – The Saint Lucia Labour Party would like to express its deepest condolences to the relatives and friends of the employees who lost their lives in the unfortunate and tragic circumstances at the premises of CIE Limited on the evening of Tuesday 21st March, 2017.

Our thoughts and prayers are also with The Management and Staff of CIE Limited who are suffering from the shock and pain of the loss of their friends and co-workers who perished in these horrific circumstances.

We wish the injured a complete and speedy recovery and thank the medical and emergency respondents for their hard work under trying circumstances.

We applaud the sterling work of the doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers and other first respondents for their diligence and commitment to the call of duty in these difficult moments.

Opposition Leader Hon Philip J. Pierre yesterday visited the site of the accident to personally express his concern and sadness.

“I wish strength and courage to the relatives and friends of the deceased and a speedy recovery to the injured.  I hope the Managing Director and staff can overcome this terrible set-back and continue to make their contribution to our island Saint Lucia.  It will not be easy but I am sure that collectively with help and encouragement they will survive”

  1. That was very good of the SLP to make such a timely statement. However, I expected to hear some stern warnings to guard against a repetition of such incidents. Accidents of that nature are usually the result of ineffective supervision and/or gross negligence on the part of some person or persons. I expected the SLP to also call for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances leading up to such an explosion, and for those found culpable to be punished accordingly.
