(PRESS RELEASE) – Once more, our sister islands within the OECS have suffered loss of life and immense property damage consequent upon the passage of a major hurricane.

On this occasion, the Commonwealth of Dominica bore the brunt of Hurricane Maria’s wrath. This is the first occasion a storm of this magnitude has scored a direct hit on our sister island and damage is widespread. The Commonwealth of Dominica is perhaps, the island with which Saint Lucia enjoys the closest historical and cultural ties.

Political Leader, Hon Philip J. Pierre, has been briefed on the severity of the situation, and has extended his condolences to those who lost loved ones and best wishes to those whose properties have been affected.

Hon Pierre is of the view that whilst our best wishes are in order, what the people of Dominica require most at this time is relief in the form of food, clothing and shelter. To this end, the Saint Lucia Labour Party has initiated a “Help Dominica” drive and the Party has opened its Headquarters, situated on Jeremie Street, Castries, for the receipt of donations.

Individuals or corporations willing to assist can call (758) 724-7185 for f further information.

The Political Leader urges all Saint Lucians to donate generously as especially in this time of need we really must be our brother’s keepers.

Our prayers and thoughts continue to be with all those who were affected by this devastating event.

  1. There is a simple, and both true and compelling expression --- Deeds Speak.

The SLP is not handicapped, is well funded, and allegedly passionate base of members that believe in them.

If that is the case, why call for assistance?

Instead, lead by example and make an announcement of either SLP donations else SLP opening up their homes to temporarily house in Here families who have no homes left until they are re-built.

When the Leader of the Opposition announces that he has opened up his home temporarily to house a displaced family until their home gets re=built post-hurricane, he will have the attention of many of us.

Until then, the latest press release of the day remains background noise and yap-yap devoid of demonstrating leadership through deeds.

And. let's be very honest on this, it is very, very sad and pathetic that the SLP has chosen to denigrate and reduce the peril that our brothers and sisters in Dominica face to simply politicizing it and making it an opportunity for self-serving promotion.

They need the help that any of us can offer, not to be exploited as an excuse for a press release.

If the Leader of the Opposition was not so selfish, he would have suggested that one of the most effective ways for us to help is donating to the Red Cross, web site as follows:

    God Bless.

  2. If the six SLP ministers donated half of their salaries and half of what they have looted to Dominica that would be a hefty sum of money . That can rebuilt half of Dominica I'm sure.
