SLBF and NBA Development League Executive host Developmental Assessment Seminar

basketball-jpgPRESS RELEASE – As part of its continued developmental initiatives for the sport of basketball (players & administrators), the SLBF will be hosting Mr. John Wiggins from the 15th of September to the 22nd.
Mr. John Wiggins, is the NBA’s Development League Toronto Raptors 905 Director of Team Operations and born of Saint Lucian parentage. Mr. Wiggins has expressed the desire to assist in the development of basketball on the island and the SLBF welcomes and recognizes this timely engagements as another step towards the systematic development and growth of basketball.
As such, the SLBF along with Mr. Wiggins and the technical committee of the SLBF which is headed by Mr. Anthony Lamontagne will be coordinating a number of activities to coincide with his visit. The main objective of the engagement is primarily to assess the current level of our structure, athletes, and administrators and to further develop short/medium and long term plans and guidelines for the enhancement of basketball particularly; youth and females. President of the St. Lucia Basketball Federation Mr. Leslie Collymore stated “We are very excited yet gracious for Mr. Wiggins giving his time, experience and expertise towards helping us develop basketball locally. We recognize that for us to reach the level of some of our regional counterparts we must tap into the resources available to us.”
Below is the list of scheduled activities in which your participation and attendance is solicited.
Activity:  Focus Group / Working Session (Coaches and Phys Ed Teachers)
Time: 10:00 am
Venue: Ministry of Youth Development & Sports Conference Room
All coaches and Physical Education teachers and other individuals interested in the development of the sport are invited to a focus group session in the conference room of the Ministry of Youth Development & Sport. The session is intended for Mr. Wiggins to get a feel of the challenges faced, knowledge and education and resources that you would like to access.
Activity: Player Skill Assessment. (East, West, South Players)
Time: 4:00pm to 6:00pm
Venue: Vigie Multipurpose Sports Complex
Players from the western, eastern and southern quarters of the island are invited to a player skill assessment session. Players will undergo a series of drills and exercises in order to identify at what level of play and comprehension they are currently.  This will also be the first phase of the selection of individuals to be invited to National Team try-outs.
Activity: Focus Group with Club & Tean Managers
Time: 4:00pm to 6:00pm
Venue: Ministry of Youth Development & Sports Conference Room
Managers of affiliate clubs and teams are invited to this session intended to review the structure of their organizations, operating cost efficiency, revenue generation and fund raising efforts, information sharing of operational successes, recruitment and retention and access to resources for development and growth.
Activity: Player Skill Assessment (Northern Players)
Time: 7:30pm to 9:00pm
Venue: Vigie Multipurpose Sports Complex (TBC)
This session is for the players in the northern quadrant of the island. The activities are the same as Saturday’s session for southern players and will form part of National Team selections as well.
Activity: Player Skill Assessment (All Players)
Time: 7:30pm to 9:00pm
Venue: Beausejour Indoor Facility
This session is for all players around the island. Players from Saturday and Mondays sessions are welcome to attend and any other interested players who may have missedSaturday’s or Monday’s sessions.
The sessions are guaranteed to be informative and Mr. Wiggins by extension is looking forward to hearing your concerns and sharing his experiences with you.
