SLASPA port police officers give back


PRESS RELEASE  – The Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority’s Port Police Department has come to the aid of a Security Officer which lost her home tragically during a recent house fire.

Ms Edgitha Joseph a Security Officer of Sentinel Security who is stationed at the George F.L. Charles (GFLC) Airport; works closely with the Officers of the Port Police Department Northern Division.

The Officers having heard of the plight of Ms Joseph and living up the motto to “Protect and Serve”, felt compelled to assist her during her time of need and therefore organized a fundraising initiative to collect funds among the Officers at the GFLC Airport and the Castries Seaport.

A ceremony to present the funds to Ms Joseph was held on Monday, December 12, 2016 at SLASPA’s Headquarters in Castries. Speaking at the brief ceremony the Chief of Port Police, Mr. Kennedy Francis commended his Officers for the generosity demonstrated towards Ms Joseph.

He also stated, “That in times like these we become each other’s keeper. I am also very proud of my Officers that having heard the call they rose to the occasion and came to a colleague’s aid and were quickly able to raise $1,200.”

Ms Joseph during the brief ceremony which was also attended by senior members of the Port Police Department, the Senior Manager- Human Resources and the Manager- Administration, indicated that she was comforted by the level of moral support she received from members of the department. She went on to express her extreme gratitude for the generosity and indicated that the gesture of support will be the starting point of her rebuilding efforts.

The management and staff of the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) wishes Ms Joseph the best as she seeks to return to a state of normalcy.
