Saint Lucia, under their third different captain, had lifted the championship trophy for a third year in a row a day prior in Roseau, Dominica. Under the leadership of diminutive spinner, Simeon Gerson, the champions trounced their neighbours, St Vincent & The Grenadines, by nine wickets at the Botanical Gardens. Playing 32 overs, St Vincent and the Grenadines made 132/8 in their allocated overs.
Ackeem Auguste took four wickets for 28 runs. Saint Lucia needed just 125.3 overs to get to 135/1, opening batsman Tyrel Chicot 54 not out (five fours and a six) and Ackeem Auguste 32 not out.
The closing ceremony was held at the Windsor Park right after the match, during which the 2016 Windward Islands Under-15 team was announced. Six players from the champion team were selected, along with two reserves. Micoud Secondary’s Garvin Serieux Jr was amongst that number. He was also adjudged the tournament’s most outstanding wicketkeeper and Most Valuable Player.
Gerson, Dominic Auguste, Zephaniah Edwin, Lee Solomon, and Keygan Arnold are the other five players on the Windward Islands team, which has been led in batting the past two years by Saint Lucians, in the persons of Johnnel Eugene and Kimani Melius. Ackeem Auguste and Jaden Elibox are the reserves
On Sunday, a welcome reception was put on by the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports at George FL Charles Airport. The team was met on the tarmac by Deputy Prime Minister, Hon Phillip J Pierre; Minister for Youth Development and Sports, Hon Shawn Edward; Permanent Secretary, Dr Anthony George; Minister for Education, Hon Dr Robert Lewis; and Director of Youth and Sports, Mr Jim Xavier. Conspicuous by his absence was President of the Saint Lucia National Criicket Association, Mr Julian Charles, who reportedly was not invited.
The team was also presented with gifts from the receiving contingent.
