Six St. Lucians on Windwards U-17 cricket team

81fd09ee-a254-4fb0-86da-e59cef5a709aSix young Saint Lucians are presently in Tobago for the 2016 West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Under-17 tournament. Junior Sportsman of the Year, Johnnel Eugene is the captain of the Windward Islands, defending champions in this competition.

The team also includes Kimani Melius, who is returning from last season. Dane Edward was recently a member of the Saint Lucia national team at the Windward Islands Under-19 competition, along with Johnnel and Kimani. Together, the three also represented West Indies Under-16 in 2015, as well as playing the U17 series. In a few weeks’ time, Johnnel and Dane will also play for the Windwards in the WICB U19 competition.


The Windwards U17 squad also includes three other recent U15 stars, in the pesons of Stavone Gabriel, Rene Montoute, and Dhan Raj Chaz Cepal.

The Saint Lucians left the island on Wednesday. The tournamnent, being hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board, is scheduled to run until 18 July.


In 2015, Windward Islands came from behind to take the title at the death in the final round, beating the Leeward Islands by a massive 207 runs in the final match, and leapfrogging Jamaica and hosts Trinidad and Tobago.
