Six St. Lucians in Creole Boxing Champs finals

PRESS RELEASE – Going into tonight’s final night of competition at 2015 Creole Boxing championships being held in Martinique, Guadeloupe top the points standings with 8 pts followed closely by ST.Lucia, Martinique and Dominica on 7 pts each with Barbados on 2pts and defending champions French Guyana( Cayenne) on 1 pt.

So far ST. Lucia has collected one gold medal, one silver and two bronze medals all won on the second night of competition last night. The medal winners so far for ST.Lucia are Heslie Joseph who won gold in the 60 kg Novice final after defeating Vivares Rodrigue of Martinique in the finals. Ian Auberto won silver as he could not have continued his bout against Keshan Jacoby of Guadeloupe who won gold in the youth 16-18 60kg lightweight division.

The Bronze medal winners for ST. Lucia are Ron Bastien and Adrian Louis .Ron Bastien lost out to Yacine Abella of Martinique on points in the 81 kg lightheavyweight division while Louis lost out to Jerome Petro of Guadeloupe also on points last night in the 64kg lightwelterweight division .

Other St. Lucians in the ring last night were Kareem Boyce in the 14-16 60 kg lightweight Junior division where he won over Venance Medhy of Martinique to qualify for the finals of that division. Lyndell Marcellin had a walkover to qualify for the finals of the 69kg elite division when his opponent Thomas Marc of Guadeloupe could not take the ring for the semi finals .

The other St. Lucian in the ring last night was Leroy James who took on Simon David of Dominica in the 81kg light heavy weight Final . In a bout which resembled a street brawl and WWF Raw contest both fighters were disqualified by referee Viviane Boussardo who seemed to have had enough of the contest.

With the disqualification both James of St. Lucia and David of Dominica cannot win any medal and their teams will not get any points for the bout.

18 finals bouts are expected to be staged this evening with St. Lucia being involved in six of those finals.
The St. Lucian boxers in finals tonight are :

Kareem Boyce in the 14-16 Juniors 60 kg lightweight Division
Nathan Ferrari in the 14-16 Juniors 64 kg lightwelterweight division
Travis Maynard in the Elite open 56 kg Bantamweight Division
Lyndel Marcellin in the 69kg Welterweight elite open Division
Arthur Langelier in the 75 kg Middleweight elite open division
And lone Female Merland St Claire in the 75kg Middleweight division.
