The visiting Shrewsbury House School out of the United Kingdom began their cricket tour of Saint Lucia with matches at two venues on Monday.

At Gros Islet Playing Field, John Eugene’s Academy easily defeated the English Under-13s by 77 runs.

JECA made 160-4 from 25 overs. Captain Akim Auguste top-scored with an attractive 60, including 10 fours, while Sanjay Hayle added 36, and Amari Venner 26 not out.

Shrewsbury House School Team One were dismissed for 83 in 18 overs. James Chapman scored 19, while Ben Mangat made 16. Hayle, Venner, Ryan Goodman and Fijay Bastien picked up two wickets each.

In the other match, at the Monchy Playing Field, the Northern Cluster Grass Roots team condemned Shrewsbury House School Team Two to a comprehensive 151-run defeat.

Half-centuries by Rahym Joseph (56), female player, Qiana Joseph (51), and Stephen Mitchel (50) hurried the local team’s total to 219-4 off 25 overs.

When the English lads replied, the local boys easily wrapped up the match with 9 overs still remaining. Only Daniel Davies with 19 reached double figures.

For the Northern Cluster Grass Root team, Julius Charles, Rahym Joseph and Jervel Dupres finished with two wickets each.

According to the official SHS Twitter, there were some positives from the two games. “Some good individual performances and team efforts against tough opposition. Boys look good though!”
