Sex education sensitization drive

PRESS RELEASE – The Department of Probation and Parole Services will on Tuesday, August 5th, 2014 launch Sexual Education Month in keeping with their theme: “Let’s Talk Sex.”

The month– long schedule of activities will be primarily geared at the Department’s clients. Officials at the Department indicate however, that they will cater to interested members of the public who visit the department, to be a part of those activities.

The Department‘s officials have underscored that they continue to go all out, to assist clients including in the area of Sex Education, which is an important emerging concern for the Department.

In so doing the Probation and Parole Services Department has engaged other social partners, including the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relations, the Saint Lucia Planned Parenthood Association, the National Skills and Development Centre (NSDC) and a number of medical experts, in order to ensure that the activities will have a lasting positive impact on clients and the wider community.

Among the highlights, the sessions will feature a Professional Development

Presentation on the topic: Working with persons with STDs, STIs and HIV, on the opening day.

The Men’s and Women’s Health Talks scheduled for August 8th and 12th respectively, will be facilitated separately by competent experts Dr. Andre Matthew and Dr. Grandison – Didier.

Going beyond the traditional areas of discussion on Sex Education, the Probation and Parole Services Department will host a presentation on “Sex and Law” and a Testimonial entitled “What is life like living with HIV in St. Lucia,” on Friday, August 22, 2014. Ultimately the Department is committed to ensuring that their clients, comprising mainly vulnerable youth, are in a position to make informed, positive and responsible sexual health choices.
