PRESS RELEASE – Students of St. Lucian and Caribbean descent who live in Palm Beach, Dade or Broward Counties may apply for this scholarship.
The recipients will be 2017 high school graduates and must be accepted to an accredited(vocational, two or four year) institution.
For further explanation regarding this scholarship, please review the eligibility criteria and application deadlines in the corresponding sections below.
Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
The School must be nationally or regionally accredited.
Must enroll in a minimum of 12 credits hours in the first term.
Must submit a copy of acceptance letter from college/university
Minimum of 500 word essay (explain why you chose your program and how you will use your degree to impact your St. Lucian or Caribbean community).
Must have community service hours or extracurricular activities.
Must submit two letters of recommendations. ( 1 academic, 1 community or extracurricular)
Must be of St. Lucian or Caribbean descent. (For proof of heritage, documents can be birth certificates, baptismal papers or passports of applicants or parents.)
Must complete an interview with the Children of Helen Scholarship Committee.
Application and required documents must be submitted by Saturday, April 22nd, 2017. Scholarship recipients will be notified by Monday, May 8th, 2017.
The Scholarship Committee of The Children of Helen Alliance., Inc. will select qualified recipients. The scholarship will be awarded according to the eligibility of the candidates.
Scholarship will be in the amount of $500.00. This is a onetime scholarship. Funds may be used towards educational expenses only.
Condition for acceptance of scholarship is based on continued enrollment in the first term.
Essay must be in a Microsoft word document at 12.0 font in Times New Roman and double spaced.
