PRESS RELEASE – The Board of Governors of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College has granted approval for the College’s Division of Teacher Education and Educational Administration to offer a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
The Postgraduate Diploma will be offered under the auspices of the Eastern Caribbean Joint Board of Teacher Education and through a franchise arrangement with the School of Education, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.
This is a postgraduate programme; therefore, only persons who have at least a Bachelor’s level degree would qualify to do the programme. Initially, the year-long programme will be offered only to persons who are already teaching in Saint Lucia and do not have formal training in pedagogy.
Persons in the programme will study, among other things, how to teach in specific subject areas, undergo a teaching practice component and conduct Action Research in an education-related area. The areas of specialization to be offered are:
The Teaching of English
The Teaching of Mathematics
The Teaching of Science
The Teaching of Social Studies
The Teaching of Modern Languages The Teaching of Business
Art and Craft at the Secondary level
The first cohort of students will commence the programme in August 2015 through an in-service arrangement. To that end, the College and the Ministry of Education will work in tandem to ensure that the College continues to offer our citizens quality education at affordable rates.
In this instance, the College is particularly pleased because persons who complete this programme will have a sustained and multiplier effect on our education system.
