The Dean and Faculty of the Division of Teacher Education and Educational Administration of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) will be hosting its first ever Mr and Ms SALCC Independence Pageant, scheduled for Friday, Feb. 20, 2015.

The theme of this activity is “Celebrating the Arts”, and encompasses an appreciation of the different art forms on the island of Saint Lucia: Literary, Visual, Performing: Theatre and Dance and Carnival. For the competition, the students will be paying tribute to the following:

Literary Arts………….. Hon. Derek Walcott

Visual Arts…………….. Hon. Dunstan St.Omer

Theatre………………….. Mr. Kendel Hippolyte

Dance……………………. Mr. Barry George

Carnival…………………. Mr. Sean Greaves

The competition forms part of the Division’s curriculum offerings to student teachers to ensure that future trained teachers are exposed to as many facets of Saint Lucian Arts and culture. This also serves an educational purpose to the entire Community College.

Our activity has two further objectives:

-Provide financial support to student teachers during their course of study and even more critically, during the time of the Teaching Practicum which is a costly exercise.

-Facilitate the professional development of Faculty at the Division by attendance at international conferences aimed at the enhancing of the skills of faculty, to best meet the needs of teachers in training and ensure the professional growth of faculty.By
