Saint Lucia’s Alfred wins medal at Jamaican high school championships

Saint Lucia’s reigning 100m Commonwealth Youth Games champion Julienne Alfred won a medal on Friday, the fourth day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championship in Kingston, Jamaica.

Representing St. Catherine High School, Alfred clocked 11.64 seconds to capture the bronze medal in the Class 2 girls 100m final.

Kevona Davis of Edwin Allen clocked a record 11.16 to lower the 11.35 which she set earlier in the semi-finals where Alfred finished second in 11.75.

Hydel’s Ray-donna Lee won the silver medal in 11.58.

The Saint Lucian won three silver medals at last year’s championship. She is on an athletic scholarship in Jamaica.

Soon to be 17 years old, Alfred is Saint Lucia’s 2017 Junior Sportswoman of the Year, and Senior Sportswoman of the Year as well, following in the footsteps of high jump star, Levern Spencer.

She is also a member of Saint Lucia’s Carifta Games team where she is expected to run the under-20 girls 100m.
