Two Saint Lucians will be taking part in a massive upcoming martial arts competition in Gudaeloupe, which they hope will propel the sport into the international limelight.
Tajhj Browne and Jerren St. Clair will represent Saint Lucia against the region’s best in ‘Caribbean War’ under the auspices of the World Kickboxing Network (WKN) in Pointe-a-Pitre in mind-June.
St. Clair, who is a former national sprinter, was a gold medalist at the recent Saint Lucia Piton Open karate championship.
Both fighters are members of Ryu Kaze, a local kickboxing and mixed martial arts club. The club started with five members – Louis Andre Murray, Alex George, Warren Best, Yassen Jospeh and Nisso Etienne – in February 2014. Since then, Ryu Kaze has grown to over 20 members.
“This event is big and can help put Saint Lucia on the map,” says Murray, president of Ryu Kaze. “Win or lose, this event will be of great importance to Saint Lucia, and can greatly encourage the WKN’s branching into Saint Lucia.”
Ryu Kaze is presently undertaking fundraising to send its representatives to the event.
According to a release from the oirganisation, the two fighters require assistance in travel, insurance and apparel, as the WKN’s promoter will be taking care of food, board and ground transportation.
